Yes. Pillar Point harbour (Princeton-by-the-Sea) offers a view of the spot in clear weather. In heavy swell, waves are visible to the naked eye. The jetty viewpoint is ideal. Very powerful waves make impressive viewing. Binoculars recommended.

Why is Mavericks so dangerous?

Mavericks combines several factors: very cold water (rapid hypothermia), shallow rocky reef, very violent currents, brutally closing waves, and the NW-exposed position. Mark Foo (top world-level surfer) died here in 1994. Sessions November to March only, in heavy swell.
